Full Moon Nights at White Sands National Park

March 1, 2026

Join Ruidoso Parks & Rec for an unforgettable five-hour adventure beneath the full moon. We’ll provide transportation on one of two handicap-accessible buses (24 seats total) to White Sands National Park—New Mexico’s surreal desert of ivory dunes set against the Organ Mountains. Hike the gentle 0.25-mile path to the outdoor amphitheater, climb the surrounding dunes, and lose yourself in the Milky Way’s brilliance. Don’t forget your camera!

  • Please note: No pets or alcohol.

Logistics & What to Bring

  • Sessions: Four nights this season—pick the date that works best for you.

Sunday, May 31, 2026 (departure time TBD)

Monday, June 29, 2026 (departure time TBD)

Wednesday, July 29, 2026 (departure time TBD)

Sunday, October 25, 2026 (departure time TBD)

  • Departure: Ruidoso Community Center, 501 Sudderth Dr., at each session’s designated time.

  • Seating: Please bring camp chairs, blankets, and coolers with food and drinks (no alcohol), as no formal seating will be provided.

  • Gear: Warm layers (desert temperatures drop quickly), a flashlight or glow sticks for the walk back, a camera, and your sense of wonder.

  • Online registration: Opens March 1, 2026, at https://secure.rec1.com/NM/villiage-of-ruidoso-nm/catalog and closes the day before each event date.

  • Fee: $20

  • Age: All ages are welcome. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Questions? Contact Ruidoso Parks & Rec at 575-257-5030.

Accessibility & Facilities

  • Two ADA-accessible buses; wheelchair/stroller ramp at the amphitheater.

  • Designated parking spaces for placard/plate holders only.

  • Service animals are welcome; no other pets or alcohol are allowed onboard.

  • Vault-toilet restrooms are located in the amphitheater area (plus additional vault toilets throughout the park).

Safety & Weather

  • Desert weather can shift in moments—monsoon storms and lightning are possible from July through September. Dress in layers and be prepared to take cover in a metal-topped vehicle if thunder rumbles.

  • Keep children in sight—dunes and night shadows can disorient little explorers.

We look forward to sharing the magic of White Sands under the full moon—see you there!
