White Sands Full Moon Night – Hosted by Ruidoso Parks & Recreation

  • Ruidoso Community Center 501 Sudderth Drive Ruidoso, NM, 88345 United States (map)

Experience the magic of a full moon rising over the luminous dunes of White Sands National Park with Ruidoso Parks & Recreation. These unforgettable evening excursions offer the chance to walk beneath moonlit skies, explore rolling gypsum dunes, and watch the Organ Mountains fade into silhouette as daylight gives way to starlight.

Spend the evening hiking the dunes, relaxing under the expansive desert sky, or enjoying simple fun in the sand. You’re welcome to bring small coolers, toys (frisbees, volleyballs, sleds, etc.), chairs, umbrellas, and blankets to make the most of your time.

Gear Recommendation:

Warm layers (desert temperatures drop quickly), a flashlight or glow sticks for the walk back, a camera, and your sense of wonder.

Safety & Weather

Desert weather can shift quickly—monsoon storms and lightning are possible from July through September. Dress in layers and be prepared to take shelter in a metal-topped vehicle if thunder rumbles.

Keep children within sight at all times; dunes and shifting night shadows can be disorienting.

We look forward to sharing the magic of White Sands under the full moon—see you there!
