RACE COURSE (4 Miler; 8.5 Miler; Half Marathon)
4 MILER: http://www.strava.com/activities/218541806.
8.5 MILER: http://www.strava.com/activities/219176758.
Start at Wingfield Park. Follow painted red arrows on road toward
Grindstone Lake entrance, turn immediately right while entering
Grindstone Lake parking lot to the trail entrance kiosk. (You will go around
the lake on all trails 4M, 8.5M & half marathon counter clockwise to end
up on the south side of the lake, on a single track trail).
After running past the kiosk trail entrance, you will encounter a fork
within 200 yards or so:
Left 4M ( yellow directional tape/arrows)
Right 8.5M & Half Marathon (yellow directional tape/ arrows)
Approximately 1.2 mile from the kiosk you will encounter a fork in the trail:
Left will be for the 8.5 M runners.
Right will be the half marathon course, using the Alfred Hale Connector to
the east side of the Grindstone Mesa loop (approx. 5 miles). Turn left at the
fork on the mesa, then another left, approx. 1.5 mile farther. At this point
you will follow a trail ridge for 1 mile or so until another junction where you
go left again. The trail then descends gradually, crisscrossing for 2 miles or
so until you cross a forest road to join the 8.5 M course to the finish line at
All trails eventually merge on the south side of the lake. You
should have the sun in your eyes (running East), proceeding on the
single track dirt trail with the dam on your left beyond a metal fence. Follow
the trail downhill through the disc golf course and back on the road.
Follow the painted red arrows on the road to the finish line on the
west side of Wingfield Park.
